The visitation of 1634 makes clear that Thomas Luther's father was Richard Luther alias Hewett of Stapleford Tawney. It also states that Richard had 2 wives and that he had children by each wife. However, it does not give their names.

We are now getting into the early 16^th^ century. The requirement for parishes to record baptisms, marriages and burials did not start until 1538, and most parishes didn't really start until the reign of Elizabeth I in 1558.

Richard Luther was born sometime around 1550 to Thomas Luther and his wife Phillipa (nee Goudge) Luther, although I do not have any definitive evidence of his birth. This was about when parish registers were first being used. In fact the registers for Kelvedon Hatch did not begin until 1560, so this is not surprising

Richard Luther was born in 1626/27 and baptised at St. Nicholas, Kelvedon Hatch in Essex on 8th April 1627. His parents were Anthony and Jane (nee Armstrong) Luther. He was part of a large family of at least 10 children, but many of his siblings died in infancy or childhood.

Edward Luther was born on 21st December 1669 and baptised at St. Nicholas, Kelvedon Hatch in Essex on 28th December 1669. His parents were Richard and Rebecca (nee Rudge) Luther
